Hello! Nice to e-meet you.

Emily Jean Frachtling is an Emmy® award-winning Director/Producer/Editor with a passion for storytelling. I approach each story I tell with empathy and curiosity, always striving to capture the essence of her subjects in a sincere and engaging way. She got her start in the world of documentary production, where she worked as an assistant editor on award-winning features, such as the HBO original Momentum Generation, a documentary that chronicles surfing's rise to mainstream popularity in the 1980s. She then went on to work as a Multimedia Producer at Duke University, where she conceptualized and produced several high-performing YouTube series’, including one that amassed over one million views since its launch in late 2020.

As a native of North Carolina, Emily is thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about her home and its inhabitants and to tell their stories through her work at PBS North Carolina. Meeting new people and learning from their unique experiences is the most rewarding aspect of her job, and she holds deep appreciation towards those who have granted her the privilege of telling their story.

When she is not editing or filming, she is renovating her 1950s Durham home, playing pickup basketball, or watching video essays about film and TV (Thomas Flight anyone?).

Emily currently works full time as a Producer/Director at PBS North Carolina but is open to freelance work. Her freelance clients include New York University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, Genentech, and others.
